For a long time I believed that talking about VoIP on the iPhone was kind of tabu. There are clear issues between this kind of services and the carriers around the world and from my point of view Apple is the kind of company that doesn’t want to get in trouble.
It’s been a while since Fring for the iPhone is around, I tested it on firmware version 1.1.4 and it was great. Then they stopped giving support with a long awaited update for version 2.0. Finally, today they released this app (to my surprise) officially on the Apple app store (I wonder for how long…)
It still works great, and of course, no jailbreak required! It supports Skype, MSN Messenger, ICQ, Google Talk, SIP, Twitter (chat only), AIM and Yahoo!. Of course, if you manage to register most (or all) of them you’ll end up with a pretty long contact list, although it has a very practical search engine. Still, I prefer Palringo for text messaging, and I’ll leave the Skype-work to Fring.
Hopefully the app will remain in the store long enough, it is free and you can download it now for free.
