A totally unintended iPhone 3G hands on

Today I went to Starbucks and in the way bumped on a friend who “somehow” got an early iPhone 3G device for himself. Although the details for this situation were undisclosed, I got to hold the thing for a while.

It was fully activated so I tried out some 3G features loading some web pages and the experience was awesome, very close to any kind of WiFi network you can fin in a common house in Mexico City. I also made some tests with the GPS feature and it is fully functional and very precise never minding the fact there is no WiFi location service in this city. It also works pretty fast.

But the best thing I noticed very quickly was the feel of the device. Since I’ve had my iPhone I can’t be able to hold it and think of it as a mobile phone, it is much more heavier and I can’t help the feel it can slip down from my hands onto the floor. This is totally resolved with the iPhone 3G. It is kind of like holding a BlackBerry 8100 in weight and material.

I’m very excited to see the App Store running already! Hopefully 3G plans are not as expensive as I expect.
